The political and fundamental rights of people in Hungary are at their lowest point since 1989, according to a new report by Berlin-based Transparency International. According to the organisation's 2018 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), released on 29 January, in recent years Hungary has experienced one of the sharpest falls in the global rankings. Hungary's score for 2018 dropped to 46, down from 55 in 2012. The government's attempts to control the judiciary and civil society groups are two of the main factors behind the drop.
