After visiting the psychiatric clinic of the Šiauliai Hospital, the Seimas (Parliament) Ombudsmen's Office found that the patients at the clinic were not being informed about their treatment and its effectiveness, their medication or even that they were able to refuse medical intervention. Patients cannot appeal involuntary hospitalization since they are not invited to court hearings. Acting to implement the national prevention of torture, Seimas ombudsmen recommended that a separate room be created for meetings with patients' loved ones in order to ensure privacy.
