The Isala Hospital in Zwolle will be the first hospital in the Netherlands to open a room for foundlings when it does so at the beginning of next year. Anonymously, women may leave their baby behind in the room. Child abandonment is unlawful in the Netherlands, but the hospital is not afraid of eventual legal proceedings or a pilot case. "I'm not expecting any problems concerning criminality," a gynecologist at the hospital says. "The law should be adapted: the right to live has a higher priority than the right to know who your parents are."
