The recent IX Report on Security in Italy and in Europe, produced by Unipolis, has revealed that 60 percent of Italians want to reinstate border controls, a higher number than is found in France, Spain and Germany. That means over half of Italians wants to suspend the Schengen Treaty, which allows free movement in Europe and created an invaluable strengthening of European integration. When Italians and other Europeans choose borders and walls, they choose to destroy the free movement area, and the results of such policies could be dramatic.
