A student's application for a traineeship with an agrarian wholesale business in the Frisian town of Drachten was rejected after he told the employer he was gay. Arguing from the Bible and her Christian conviction, the employer said that she sees a homosexual relationship as sinful and felt compelled to reject the man. But refusing a possible future employee on the sole ground of his homosexuality is only allowed if a there is a legal exception. This cannot be applied in this case. The Netherlands Institute for Human Rights has ruled that the young man was discriminated against.
