"Fuocoammar," a documentary written by Gianfranco Rosi and released last year, shed light on the struggles of immigrants from North Africa in Lampedusa. Through the eyes of a young school boy and a doctor, the short film depicts the difficulties of assimilation and integration. As well as receiving an award at the Berlin Film Festival, it has now been nominated for an Oscar award for best documentary. It demonstrates the importance and success of advocating for refugee and civil rights in the film industry.
