Seven people with suspected links to the movement behind Turkey’s July 15 coup attempt were arrested while attempting to flee from Bulgaria on October 14. The Bulgarian authorities have now handed over the men to Turkish authorities without informing the Bulgarian ombudsman or human rights organizations such as the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, contrary to both international law and the Bulgarian Constitution. Expulsions like this are becoming a regular practice for the Bulgarian state, after Abdullah Buyuk was handed over to the Turkish authorities on August 10.
