Many civil rights associations, including Antigone, are taking part in a new initiative promoted by StopOpg, an Italian organization committed to guaranteeing detainees with mental health issues get adequate treatment. The initiative is a fasting relay to raise awareness of and protest against a draft law soon to be discussed in the Chamber of Deputies. The bill would worsen conditions in mental health facilities and return them to something similar to the judicial psychiatric hospitals, which were totally inadequate and detrimental to detainees’ dignity.
