The mayor of Warsaw has banned a Polish rally that has become known as a gathering of the far right. The rally, held to mark the country's independence, was attended by some 60,000 people last year, who chanted "Pure Poland, white Poland" and held signs promoting similar messages. Mayor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz said her city had suffered enough from "aggressive nationalism" and that security must come first. This months celebration marks the 100th anniversary of the Poland's independence, and some of the rally's organisers are threatening to go ahead with it despite the ban.
