The European Commission began recently its investigation into Lithuania's refusal to broadcast two videos about LGBT individuals on the grounds of protecting the interests of minors. According to the Lithuanian Gay League (LGL), the ban violated the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, which, while containing an obligation to protect minors from harmful information, provides that any measures to that effect must be balanced with the right to freedom of expression. According to LGL, the videos sought to refute prevalent LGBT stereotypes and as such the ban was unlawful.
