The Council of Europe's human rights commissioner has said the EU-Turkey migrant deal is redundant, as migrants and refugees wouldn't try to cross into Greece from Turkey even if the controversial agreement ceased to exist. Nils Muiznieks told reporters on 1 March that people are now aware of difficult it has become to reach mainland Europe. "It is quite difficult to get further, further from the islands, further from the [Greek] mainland, because you encounter fences all along the route," Muiznieks said.
