The EU is taking legal action against Hungary because of its amendment to national education law that would force Central European University (CEU) to close. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán addressed the European Parliament yesterday, April 26, to support his government's actions and call Mr Soros, the Hungarian billionaire who started CEU, an "American financial speculator." But EU Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis said the law violated academic freedom and that the EU would be sending a formal letter of notice to the Hungarian government about violations of EU law.
