Net migration of European Union citizens to the UK has dropped to its lowest level in almost a decade – primarily because Eastern European citizens choose to leave or stay away. The British Office for National Statistics said that net migration from EU countries had dropped to 57,000 people in the year to September 2018, its lowest level since 2009. Migration to the UK from outside the EU, however, rose at a much faster rate. Total net migration remained broadly unchanged.
