Member states have to address new forms of online crimes such as revenge porn and sexual extortion by fully implementing the 2011 directive on combating sexual abuse of children. This is needed to guarantee the permanent deletion of illegal materials, and the EP’s Civil Liberties Committee voted for its implementation by a 46-1 margin. MEPs want to ensure better cross-border cooperation in the exchange of information on sex offenders and enhanced cooperation to combat trafficking and child smuggling. Following the LIBE vote, the text will now be sent to the plenary for debate and a final vote.
