In Burmych and Others v Ukraine, the European Court of Human Rights decides to strike 12,143 cases from its docket, in accordance with Article 37 ECHR. The Court refers to its pilot judgment in Ivanov v Ukriane, in which it found a violation of non-enforcement of domestic decisions in Ukraine. In Burmych, the ECtHR holds that 'Ivanov-type cases' have to be resolved by the general measures that Ukraine has to take in order to comply with the ECHR, under supervision of the Committee of Ministers. The question is whether this is compatible with the Court's task of individual justice.
