Children in youth care too often don't receive the appropriate care, or it comes too late. This is because municipalities and youth care organizations are too concerned with their own interests and too little with the interests of the child, Children's Ombudsman Marc Dullaert concludes. He says parties, under pressure of budget cuts, are focusing on the costs, meaning children are offered cheaper care that is unfit. State Secretary for Health Martin Van Rijn takes the ombudsman's words seriously. "Only a childcare professional is able to define what care a child is in want of."
