From midnight on Monday, Danish authorities have been checking IDs for all passengers boarding trains to Sweden. This decision comes after Sweden implemented ID checks at the Øresund Bridge, which links Denmark and Sweden. The Danish identity screenings are being carried out by private security personnel hired by DSB, Denmark's rail company, and will cost €1.2 million per month. The new controls by Sweden and Denmark, imposed to reduce the flow of asylum seekers from mainland Europe, end 60 years of passport-free travel between Nordic states.
