As they push for progress on euthanasia laws, doctors in Denmark are risking prison to help terminally ill patients die. The doctors work with Doctors for Active Euthanasia, which so far has helped 10 patients to die. Doctors in the group study a patient's medical records and, if appropriate, prescribe medication that will assist the patient's desire to end his or her life. "We cannot see why people should have to jump out in front of a train or shoot themselves," said Svend Lings of Doctors for Active Euthanasia. "Why can't people be allowed to be put to sleep in a proper way?"
