The draft amendment to the law on foreigner residence contradicts international law and favors commercial insurers at the expense of migrants. The inclusion of foreigners with long-term residency into the Czech public health system - a goal pursued by NGOs and the Czech ombudsman - is threatened. The amendment weakens the position of asylum seekers and children of migrants, who are to be excluded from the system. Foreigners are currently often forced to pay high sums for commercial insurance and do not have equal access to medical care or any provision of reimbursement for the provided care.
