Unaccompanied migrant children in Europe are often forced to live in "abysmal conditions" upon arrival and denied free legal aid, says a new report from the Council of Europe. The report paints a troubling reality: these children, left to fend for themselves, are sometimes found begging in Turkey, while others are arrested and detained. "Many live in precarious and difficult situations within Europe, vulnerable to neglect and violence," states the report.
