The vice chair of the right-wing European Conservatives and Reformists party has accused other MEPs being "removed from reality" for backing plans to bar MEPs from key posts if they don't agree to anti-harassment commitments and training. In an email to other MEPs, German Hans-Olaf Henkel asked if they "had all gone crazy" for supporting the popular measure. It is seen as a way to reassure voters that the European Parliament takes sexual harassment seriously, especially now with the elections only months away, and it's strongly supported by centre and centre-left EP groups.
