The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) turned down a complaint against the Dutch state concerning the regime in the maximum security Vught Penitentiary Institution. The solicitor representing Lau Geeraets's relatives had filed a complaint at the ECtHR. The state was to be held responsible his death; the man committed suicide in his cell almost a year ago, after receiving a life sentence for the murder of two men. In its response, the ECtHR said it wouldn't take up the complaint because it doesn't meet the admissibility criteria.
