The Christian owners of Ashers Bakery in Northern Ireland have lost their appeal against a ruling that their refusal to make a "gay cake" was discriminatory. The Court of Appeal found on October 24 that they had discriminated against Gareth Lee on grounds of sexual orientation by refusing to make a cake supporting same-sex marriage, and held that the relevant legislation is not incompatible with Articles 9, 10 or 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights. The judges said that the bakers weren't allowed to provide a service only to people who agreed with their religious beliefs.
