According to a UNICEF study covering 2008-2012, the rate of child poverty in Greece rose significantly after the onset of the financial crisis, reaching 40.5% in 2012, almost double the 2008 rate of 23%. The study also found that the average family income in Greece in 2012 was similar to what it had been in 1998.
