New amendments to the Act on Gender Equality were proposed last month on the initiative of the Ministry of Social Policy and Youth. The proposed act itself has been the subject of public debate for a month now. The ombudswoman for gender equality, Višnja Ljubičić, says that she was not familiar with the plans of the Ministry of Social Policy and Youth and, in her opinion, the proposed amendments do not go in the direction of strengthening legal protections — the aim of the European Commission recommendation that was the foundation of the proposed amendments to the act.
