The Lithuanian Gay League on July 12 asked Dalia Grybauskaitė, the president of Lithuania, to veto the Parliament‘s decision to transpose an EU directive without granting family rights to civil partners. The proposed amendments to the Law on Equal Opportunities names only spouses and children up to the age of 21 as family members. Such a law would discriminate against other EU nationals who have registered partnerships in their country, and would prevent them from claiming social and tax benefits available to Lithuanians.
