The European Court of Human Rights condemned Belgium for letting a family of Serbian Roma asylum seekers, including five children, live in conditions of extreme poverty for a month, in the streets, before being returning to Serbia. The judges did not rule on the rejection of the asylum application, but they claimed that allowing the couple and their children to live in such conditions amounted to a violation of Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (inhuman or degrading treatment).
