Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia say they are against imposing EU sanctions on Poland for alleged violations of the rule of law. Speaking at a joint press conference on 9 March, Latvian Prime Minister Maris Kuczinskis said that the three EU members "would be against any punishments imposed on Poland." He says the Polish government should continue to negotiate with the EU executive. In response, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki thanked the Baltic trio and insisted that Poland would try to "reach an agreement."
