The government deal signed by the Five Star Movement and the League includes a chapter that has caused great concerns for those who defend constitutional values. For example, while the Italian Constitution refers to “penalties” in the plural, in chapter 11 of the government deal, penalties are reduced to the sole use of prison without considering any alternatives to detention. For this and other reasons, Liberties member Associazione Antigone has sent a letter to Sergio Mattarella, calling on him to safeguard constitutional values and prevent political powers from disregarding them.
