A new study prepared by the European Parliament has discovered that of the 775 groups set up by the European Commission to receive advice from outside experts, no more that 12 have held public meetings. The EC sets up expert groups to receive policy advice from experts on a range of issues, from air transport statistics to coin-counterfeiting and air quality. The EP's study identified only five expert groups that had held meetings open to the public, although the EC said there were actually 12 such public groups.
