More than
100,000 people have signed an online petition demanding for the resignation of
the Romanian ombudsperson. The petitioners are outraged that Victor Ciorbea
appealed to the Constitutional Court against a 2001 law that bars people convicted of a criminal offense from serving in government, a move that would help the leader of ruling party become prime minister. The signees are accusing Ciorbea of being obedient to the government and not representing the people, but he insists that he is fulfilling his duties by arguing that the law is vague and needs
a review of its constitutionality.
